"We are all on the same boat, the problem being about 80% of us think that this boat is seaworthy, 15% thinks it needs a new captain, 4% think we need a new boat but only 1% think we need to find land and dispense with the need for a boat altogether."  ........Albert Einstein

REFERENDA???

I had a comment here, about a person who wants to organize a referendum to try and stop the northern pipeline.

Someone else wants to get a referendum for stopping the smart meters.

Now, I just heard about some well meaning teacher wanting to campaign for a referendum to reverse Bill 22

which legislated the BCTF back to work with no leeway at all.

People have to realize that the conditions which made the H.S.T. referendum possible no longer exist.

                            1) The movement was led by a very well known politician.

                            2) There were two political parties supporting the project.

                            3) One of these parties could get an army of volunteers just by asking

                            4) Some prominent reporters and columnists were very publicly pro referendum.

                            5) And most importantly, people were directly affected financially by the H.S.T.

The Referendum and Initiatives Act as it was legislated in B.C., was intentionally written in a way that makes it extremely difficult to meet all the required conditions.

Before calling for a referendum, consider these points to assess the feasability

and save yourself a lot of wasted time and money.
